Everyday Rainbows 🌈 .
I often think about how complicated eating seems to have become with the onslaught of nutrition information available to us over the past decade.
.
The diets of today are more complicated and Diet Culture is transitioning into Wellness Culture.
.
Though I am excited about nutritional science and natural ways to support health and healing, I also find that the science alone gives us a reductionistic approach to food and eating.
.
There’s more ‘medicine’ to be found in food than just nutrients. .
The joy of connection, satisfaction and pleasure are all as important as getting the nutrients in.
.
There’s no refuting the evidence that eating fruits and vegetables are supportive of health, but of course there’s not magical eating that’s going to solve our emotional woes either...
.
My one favorite thing is to focus on colour though, for a straightforward way to increase variety and last bit not least to nourish my senses with a rainbow on my plate ☺️

Quick and easy meals are my everyday go tos.
.
Here’s a super basic stir fry with some flavored tofu and rice noodles.
.
The colours definitely brightened my grey February day.

One of the strongest themes I see reoccurring in both my clients as well as in myself is the difficulty in being kind toward one self, to practice self care and to putting oneself first.
.
Putting ourselves first doesn’t have to be about big things. It can be about the minutia of every day.
.
Like pausing to check in with it is we actually need. Food, rest, company, time alone, movement, connection?
.
It’s hard to know if we never actually check in...
.
Maybe we’ve been conditioned to think that putting ourselves first is selfish, when in reality it’s impossible to serve others from an empty cup.
.
So my invitation for today is to pause. Ask yourself what you need and the serve yourself with kindness.
.
You are worthy and worth it.

Do one thing that scares you every day, right?
.
Well my wonderful friend, colleague and collaborator @yoga_with_louise is the queen of #kitchendancing videos and since my intention this year is to be more embodied why not join in the fun?! 🙈😂💃🏽
.
Let’s get moving our bodies in ways that feel fun & joyful!

Sometimes one of the most challenging things with Intuitive Eating is not just knowing if we are hungry or not, or know what kind of food we are hungry for or even stopping when we are full.
.
For me, often the challenge is in eating something that’s going to carry me to the next time I get an opportunity to eat.
.
Trying different food combinations and learning from past experiences helps.
.
Oh and NOT beating myself up if I get it “wrong”, helps too of course!

As I’m getting ready to prepare my very modest veggie patch for the coming season, I *finally* got to harvest some purple sprouting broccoli.
.
I keep repeating my inner story of “I don’t have patience”. Since I’ve waited since last May for these, perhaps I can let that story go...?
.
What stories are you holding on to that may have served their time, and that you are ready to let go of?
“Dieting is packed and sold to us as the path to happiness.” Just have a look at the endless messages that the multi billion Diet Industry fling at us everywhere we turn.

We are being told and sold, that that pursuit of weight loss is the gateway drug to happiness.”
.
We’ve been conditioned for almost all our lives that thin = health. That we are ‘better people’ if we could just learn to control our weight, and if we can’t, then WE are at fault.
.
It may still be difficult to let go of the desire to lose weight, that’s totally OK. We all live in this dieting culture...
.
Just know that letting go of dieting is NOT the same as letting yourself go.
.
Letting go of dieting is an opportunity to cultivate self care, body respect and end the war with your body.
.
It is the way to free your mind from obsessive thinking about food and weight and instead put you energy into things that truly matters to you and that will enrich your life. ♥️

even in your darkest moments”

A big thank you to all the Birthday wishes yesterday. I had such a lovely weekend spending time with an old friend which reminded me of why it’s important to surround yourself with people who get you...
